Beach improvements are fund raising project aim Representatives of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and Lions Clubs met with Gov. Calvin Rampton Tuesday to present a fund-raising fund-raising project aimed at improving Great Salt Lake beaches. The two organizations are sponsoring a Lagoon Day on Saturday, July 22. Saturday has been officially christened "Great Salt Lake Day." Tickets worth $5 in rides and activities can be purchased at Albertson's stores for $2. A magic show will be given for the kiddies According to C of C member Hugh Snyder, the beach program includes three projects: 1) Brine fly control - a $10,000 spraying campaign already underway un-derway which will continue through the summer. 2) Installation of adequate sewage facilities at the lake, 3) Construction of a water line to the beaches. Snyder says he hopes the community will support Lagoon Day He says the lake is the serond largest tourist attraction in the state and that Utah visitors and residents should be provided with better beachside facilities. |
