Creative playground Kids play inside the ground A new, uniquely creative playground featuring a maze, sandpile and underground tunnel has been in use by children of Medical Towers residents since early June. The facility, which cost approximately ap-proximately $6,000 to complete, was built because young children living in Medical Towers had no area in which to play. "We tried to create a play area with physical facilities to stimulate creative play," commented com-mented project coordinator W. Stanley Johnson. Residents and their children have apparently been pleased with the playground. The playground's main attraction, at-traction, an underground tunnel, is composed of a 30" concrete pipe with a submarine-type escape hatch and rope ladder to climb out. The tunnel stretches the length of the playground, between a maze constructed of standing logs and sandpiles for both younger and older children. Other facilities provided by the playground are benches and sidewalks of different grades. As many as twelve children at a time, from toddlers to nine- and ten-year-olds, use the playground. |
