Show Tankers win three The Ute swimmers should feel better this morning after defeating three foes over the weekend. In the swimmers' version of a tri-ffleet tri-ffleet in Pocatello, Ida., the Utes defeated Idaho State 82-30 and Montana 78-34 on Friday. The Utes then returned to Salt Lake and soundly defeated Oregon State by a score of 77-36. A number of the swimmers stayed home on Friday and entertained Ricks College in the Ute Nata-torium. Nata-torium. On Friday the Utes captured 9 of the 12 first places. Gary Conrad Con-rad continued his winning ways by capturing both the 200 and 500 yard freestyle with clockings of 1:52 and 5:16 respectively. The Utes also had good performances perfor-mances from Rick O'Toole, Rob Kittel, "Biff Rummerfield, Tom Eiche and Bill Leeflang. Saturday night saw the Utes swim to 10 of 13 first places. This victory left their won-lost record at 3-1 for the month of January. Rob Kettel took scoring honors with victories in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle. Buz Elgin the touted OSU freestyler could do no better than third in the 100 yard and second in the 200-yard freestyle behind Kittel. Dave Morelli, one of Coach Don Red-dish's Red-dish's most recent additions to the team added valuable points in the one and three meter diving competition. com-petition. Times are still relatively slow but are picking up. For example, Gary Conrad took first in the 200 yard Butterfly Saturday night with a clocking of 1:57.9. The school record is 1:57.9 set by Tom Eiche last year. The competition competi-tion between these two fine swimmers should provide some fine times before the season is over. |
