Show U police recruit officers-ages 8-12 daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Selander; Jean Trent, 8, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Trent, and Lora Winkel, 8, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Winkle. All families live in University Village. The Safety Patrol is under the supervision of Mrs. Jean Morenz of the University Village council. The new officers were officially sworn in, in ceremonies at Ballif Hall Thursday night by Lt. Wayne Shepherd of University Police. Lt. Shepherd presented each safety patrolman with an ID card and admonished them all to set an example for the other kids in the village. Elroy Jones started his own career as in police work as a safety patrolman in the sixth grade. It was a false start, however. He was busted from the force for putting cockleburrs in a girl's hair. Elroy Jones, director of University Uni-versity Police, recruits new officers of-ficers at an early age. Nine new officers, ages 8 to 12 have been added to the force. They will serve as safety patrolmen patrol-men for the 50 to 75 school-age children in University Village. Their job is to assist in the safe loading and unloading of the school bus before and after school.
