Those first two albums have been followed by four more, each with countless hits that have spiraled in popularity. "Eight Miles High," "Hey Joe," "My Back Pages," "Have You Seen Her Face. . . ." are but a few of the never-ending hits by the Byrds. The Byrds will be bringing back some fantastic old sounds plus some music of the future in their concert tomorrow night with the San Franciscan Sopwith Camel. It should be a beautiful concert, and one very much worth seeing. Few groups in the nation have gained acclaim comparable to The Byrds, who will be playing in concert at the Terrace tomorrow night at 7 and 10. This is one group that has been able to survive sur-vive all the onslaughts of rock music over the past four years and come out with as much prestige as the day their first single hit . the top of the charts. The Byrds set a goal for them- selves when they first broke into the business, and that was to ma- ture the rock and roll field. In their minds, they have succeeded, j: and few will doubt this feeling of ;j; one of the finest groups of musi- S cians around today. 5 While reaching this goal, other i things happened to the group in- J eluding several hit records, some : outstanding accomplishments in 5 the music field, as well as constant j: respect of their contemporaries 'i and envy of their competitors. The Byrds got a scrappy start : in a small night club on the Sun- : set Strip, and had to wait for their : first big hit, "Mr. Tamourine i Man," to hit the big time. "Mr. :j Tambourine Man," which is a Dy- j lan song, soared to the top of singles charts in a matter of weeks and several other Dylan songs : were recorded by the group. : Dylan, respected by most people : to be the foremost songwriter in the United States, said of the j; Byrds, "They're cutting across all j; kinds of barriers which most : people who sing are not even hip : to.
