Show Mason vs. Burger Has Justice Come Far? elusive goal. Technicalities replace reason, killers go free and innocent inno-cent men are executed. These are sobering thoughts. Then again, the look of satisfaction satisfac-tion comes to Hamilton Burger's face. Never in his career has he sent an innocent man to the gas chamber; never has he allowed a guilty man to go free. Hamilton Burger has to be the most successful attorney since the beginning of man. His job is servant serv-ant of a court whose duty is justice. jus-tice. During his service, justice has been done. Perry Mason? No, he is not truly a success for he has missed his true calling. Mason should have been a detective. If one of Mason's cases ever went to the jurors, Perry Mason would surely lose the case. By ANDY LOPEZ Hamilton Burger observes the jury, glances at the judge, gives a last look at the witness and then says, "Your witness Mr. Mason." Ma-son." He then glides back to the prosecuting prose-cuting attorney's bench and sits down. His look is satisfied; again he has built a case strong enough to remove all doubt of the guilt of Mr. Perry Mason's client. He winks at Lt. Tragg, his fellow comrade com-rade in success who sits beside him. District Attorney Burger takes a drink of water from the glass on his desk and watches the trial. The New Style Trial The trial, he reflects. We have surely come a long way from the Trial by Ordeal and Trial by Combat Com-bat of the middle ages. "Objection," "Objec-tion," shouts Mr. Burger rising, "Mr. Mason is covering material not covered in direct and is deliberately de-liberately introducing an impression impres-sion he knows to be false." "If the court please," says Perry Mason, "Mr. Burger did open the door when he asked about the watchdog. Naturally horse-racing follows.
