Show Redskins Regain Defensive Star A sigh of relief was heard from the athletic department yesterday when coaches learned that defensive defen-sive tackle Manny Fernandez would very likely be recovered from his knee injury received in the Minnesota Minne-sota game. Doctors announced Tuesday that Fernandez knee would not require an operation and would be fully healed within a month. Coaches Optimistic Coaches are optimistic that the huge Redskin defensive tackle may be ready for action against the University of Wyoming October 14. Fernandez was injured early in the first quarter against Minnesota when he stretched ligaments in his right knee. A note of bad news accompanied the good word Tuesday, as coaches concluded that right linebacker Jim Whitely would be out for the Oregon Ore-gon contest. An infection drainage in Whitely's knee will sideline the Ute Senior for the next week. Coach Giddings was happy to announce that other than these two key in-I in-I juries, Utah should be in peak condition con-dition when they meet the University Uni-versity of Oregon Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Ute Stadium. x |
