Show Grid Ironers Topple Conference Records This has been quite a year for breaking Western Athletic Conference records. Six WAC career records have already been surpassed this season and schedules sched-ules are barely half over. ACCORDING to WAC commissioner com-missioner Paul W. Brechler, three of the records are now held by two juniors; one from Brigham Young and one from Arizona State. Kent Oborn, BYU safety, has returned 35 punts for 444 yards to break the 32 for 301 record set by former Arizona Safety, Rick Harris. Woody King, an Arizona safety, has intercepted intercep-ted 10 passes to break the record rec-ord of nine held by Gene Frantz, former BYU great Both Oborn and King have all this year and next to add to their records. When the collegiate careers car-eers are over, their marks will be hard to top. ARIZONA halfback Ben Hawkins Hawk-ins has caught 79 passes for 1279 yards to break former Utah great Roy Jefferson's 67 passes for 1127 yards. What's more, Hawkins has four more games to add to his double record. New Mexico Lobo quarterback Stan Quintana halds the other record. He's accumulated 198 yards on returning pass interceptions inter-ceptions and has five games with which to improve on that record. This record was formerly held by Gene Franz. |
