Show WAC Conference Career Records Topple Mazzotta is a senior end from Pico Rivera, California. He plays offense and defense and plays them both well. He's one of the : S versatile of the Utes but S aTso one of the most unher-aided. ways last year but is a defensive defen-sive specialist this year. Dnggs starred offensively in the Liberty Liber-ty Bowl game but has done well his year on the defense. He's a Sormer Utah Class B All-Stater from American Fork High. The life of a defensive end is by no means an easy one. On end sweeps, there is a halfback in the offensive backfield who is assigned to block him out of the play and the defensive end must stand up to take his lumps and often he does. IN FOOTBALL, the glamour euys are the quarterbacks who are the passers, the halfbacks who make fancy runs, and the offensive ends who make catches catch-es of long bombs. Even on defense, the line-backers earn their share of laurels with their numerous tackles. The defensive end is, however, an unsung un-sung hero who deserves as much attention as the others. ON THE University of Utah team, these players include Bill Morley, Frank Mazzotta, and Merlin Driggs. These defensive ends do a good job every week with little or no fanfare. Morley, a 6-0, 180 pounder, played both offense and defense last year on Utah's Liberty Bowl team. This year he is a defensive defen-sive specialist. A junior, Morley played football at Salt Lake s East High where he was All-Stater All-Stater playing both offense and defense. It's defense where Morley Mor-ley shines and where Coach Na-gel Na-gel uses him exclusively. DRIGG'S story is very similar to Morley's. Driggs played both |
