Show LIONS CLUB STARTS ATTENDANCE CONTEST; TO PUSH EXPLORATION OF UNDERGROUND WATER RESOURCES in South Milford are pumping more water than is used from the Minersville reservoir, and there has been no lowering of the underground water table. The State Engineer, Mr. Smith said, limits use of underground water "until he finds out definitely defi-nitely what's down below." The matter of additional wells for this area, Mr. Smith said,- is "still open" ; Continued discussion of the i deep well project, begun after Joe Murdock reported on progress prog-ress of efforts to obtain assistance assist-ance with drilling test wells, brought out the fact that there are at present no deep wells, going down 1800 to 1900 feet anywhere in the state of Utah, and Milford has the opportunity of proving the exist of vast water resources, hitherto unknown un-known and untapped. The Milford Lions Club was divided into two "camps" at the regular meeting on Thursday of last week, with chairmen of each group challenging their fellow Lions to match strides in an attendance contest which will run thru the remainder of the year. A festive evening of dining and dancing, with both planned and "off-the-cuff" entertainment en-tertainment features, will reward re-ward the winner at the expense of the losers. Chairmen of the two groups are Jay Christensen and Lion Peacock, Metal Producers Mill superintendent. On the latter team are Joe Murdock, Ed Smith, Milton H. Pool, Myron Persons, S. A. Williams, J. M. Hughes, Sam Cline, Bob Tom-sik, Tom-sik, Joe Smith, Gene Kirk, Dr. Eugene Davie. Members of the group headed by Jery Christen- ' sen are Bert Wynaught, Gene Mayer, Warren Johnson, Vance Fisher, Jack Lowe, Perry Olsen,, Ol-sen,, George Jefferson, M. I. Walters, Del Kirk, K. L. Archer. Roy Firmage and Max Abbott. The contest begins officially at the next meeting, scheduled for Sept. 27th. J. R. Rice, proprietor of Mil-ford's Mil-ford's new jewelry store, and Mr. Clemson, of Metal Producers, Produc-ers, were guests at last week's meeting, along with Max Abbott, Ab-bott, Milford High school principal, prin-cipal, who was present for his first meeting after returning to Milford. Principal Abbott was the speaker of the evening, and advanced some interesting theories the-ories on Education. Mr. Abbott's Ab-bott's talk is reprinted on this week's editorial page.
