Show UTAH BANS "UTILITY" BRAND POTATOES The following regulation covering cov-ering entrance of "utility" brand potatoes into the state of Utah has been approved by the Utah State Board of Agriculure. Effective January 1st, 1949 entrance of "utility" brand potatoes pota-toes will be prohibited into the State of Utah. Wherever brand names are used, grade identification identifica-tion as apprpved by the Utah State Board of Agriculture must appear on each bag. Bags branded brand-ed "utility" my be used provided pro-vided the potatoes contained therein meet U. S. No. 2 requirements require-ments and the bag is stenciled or branded with proper grade designation in letters not less than two inches in height. According to R. Harvey Das trup, commissioner of marketing of the State Department of Agriculture, Agri-culture, the action was taken due to the fact that Utah's marking and branding regulations require re-quire grade designation under U. S. grade standards, which standards have been officially adopted for the State of Utah on potatoes. The brand name "utility" "util-ity" doesn't designate any grade and is, therefore, confusing to both the producer of Utah potatoes po-tatoes and the consuming public. pub-lic. Effort is being exerted to assist in standardizing the quality qual-ity of potatoes in Utah markets, as well as to encourage Utah producers to. put a quality pack of potatoes according to grade standards. |
