(Editor's Note: This Is the sixth of a series of GiKot nrticlea Kivio hik'hliyhts of the hiHtory of Piorhe, Nevada, a mininK district which has been an important factor fac-tor in Utah industry and which has been rebuilt hy Utah men.) In 1939, E. H. Snyder not content to 'let well enough alone' visioned a program which would improve and expand operations of his company com-pany and the operations of the Pioche district. He wanted a mill at the source of the ore and a mill that would treat ores from nearby districts. Power was a problem and one hat had helped to hold Pioche back or many years. Earlier, Snyder md his associates went to work m that problem and within a few eears power from Boulder Dam was brought to the district. It was brought in at a cost of SmO.COO.OO and ia pi'oving a boon to entire Southern Nevada, and will u 'oubt-edly 'oubt-edly bring other plants, pc3s:bly refineries to the Pioche district. The Combined Metals mill :". completed in 1941, and it is a :ncdel in milling efficiency that engineers from many mining districts have come to inspect. This 1000 ton per day plant with controlled ventilation does not have a window and oper ated 24 hours per day by a crew of 15 men. It is illuminated throughout through-out with flourescent lighting. The Caselton Concentrator as it is known, put into practice many years of research and operating experience ex-perience to treat economically the complex lead-zinc-silver-gold-iron ores of the Pioche district. Since 1941 the company had developed ore reserves to operate the mill for many years. In addition the mill treats ore from the Prince Consoli-ated Consoli-ated and Ely Valley mines and extends ex-tends its milling facilities to other mines in the district and the adjoining adjoin-ing states of Arizona, California, Utah and elsewhere. In 1943 undr the guiding hand of Snyder the Combined Metals Reduction Re-duction Company was reorganized, and after pavment of its indebtedness indebted-ness to National Lead Company, became be-came an independent company. During Dur-ing that year, capacity of the plant vas increased from 500 to 1000 tons per day and expansion, and modernization of the Bauer mill at Stockton, Utah, since that time has . been completed.
