Show Public meets artist; sees current show Over 200 visitors attended the opening of the exhibit featuring fea-turing paintings by the Swiss artist Roger Gerster, Sunday, at the art gallery. The show will continue through January. Mr. Gerster, accompanied by his wife, spent a few days prior to the show directing the hanging of his work and getting get-ting better acquainted with the gallery and art personnel. While they were here, they were guests of W. C. and Mel-va Mel-va Harrison at their home and exhibited considerable interest in Springville and the art movement; also in the BYU and In Utah In general. Mr. Gerster does not speak English but his wife is a charming interpreter in-terpreter and he misses little of the conversation. The work of Mr. Gerster is quite different and while he emphasises the mod ernistic trend, his paintings are pleasing. pleas-ing. Most of them are in the warm shades of orange, yellow and soft browns and each has a transparency which seems to set them apart from other art work. Also the Robert Gerring exhibit ex-hibit of ceramics, sculpture and water colors, will continue through the remainder of the month and the public is invited to see both shows. |
