Show LDS conference in SLC this weekend The 136th semi-annual conference con-ference of the LDS Church, Sept. 30-Oct. 2, in the historic Tabernacle will open the 100th year of service for the world-famous world-famous structure. Held together by rawhide and wooden pegs, the Tabernacle Taber-nacle was first used Oct. 6, 1867, at a conference directed by colonizer Brigham Young, second president of the Church. Since its opening, the Tabernacle Taber-nacle has been the home of the Tabernacle Choir which will perform at some of the six conference sessions. In recent years, the Utah Symphony Orchestra, Or-chestra, now on tour in Europe, Eu-rope, also has used the build-. ing- I The 1966 conference sessions will be presided over by David O. McKay, 93-year old ninth president of the Church. He will be assisted by three of his four counselors, Hugh B. Brown, N. Eldon Tanner and Joseph Fielding Smith. Elder Thorpe B. Isaacson will be unable un-able to assist because of illness. The general sessions will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily. More than 200 television and radio stations will feature the Tabernacle Choir, a special spec-ial 110-voice Samoan choir of the Oahu, Hawaii Stake and the Relief Society Singing Mothers Mo-thers of the Northwest region. Priesthood holders in this area ar-ea are invited to attend the large-screen telecast of the Saturday evening preisthood session at 7:30 in the George Albert Smith Fieldhouse, Pro-vo. |
