Complaints have been made from time to time, of the unsightly un-sightly appearance of the yards in front of some school buildings build-ings where careless students scatter candy bar and gum wrappers and other bits of paper pa-per to litter up the yards. In an effort to eliminate this condition, the PTA council, in cooperation with the beautification beautifi-cation board, has worked out plans for a contest among the schools. ; Chief Ashley Graham has been asked to make an inspec- j tion tour of each of the schools j including the high schools, and i the one he finds the cleanest, i will be given a white flag to ; fly below their American flag ': in the front school yard. At the end of the month, all school grounds will again be inspected and the flag again placed at the cleanest school. j At the end of the year, the school which has been kept clean or which has had the flag i the most months, will be i awarded a trophy. The PTA council president, Mrs. Gladys Goates and the citizenship chairman, Norma Jenkins, are meeting with Chief Graham this week to work out rules and regulations governing govern-ing the contest.
