BEFORE Weeds grew high at a place near the center of town just behind the fire station before the Explorer Scouts and the ' : beautification board began Saturday cleanup. BEFORE The photograph above shows the tall weeds before Saturday's cleanup on the creek banks near Kolob Stake House. Shrubs along bank would improve this area. kadis cleared Five Explorer troops from the Tenth Ward the Eleventh, the Ninth and Second and the First Ward turned out Saturday Satur-day to assist the city beautification beauti-fication board with a project of cleaning Hobble Creek banks of weeds and bed of garbage and other debris. Townspeople passing the creek at any point and especially in the vicinity of Kolob Stake House, behind the fire hall and at other points will notice a big improvement. im-provement. In addition to the Explorer troops, three fine supervisors, John Fechser, Tom Jewkes and Eli Tippetts worked with the Explorers as did Harrison Conover and Martin Conover. Also members of the beautification beauti-fication board, Margaret Conover, Con-over, Melva Harrison, Mary Schwartz, Pat Conover and Jim Wardle were all on the job helping to clear the creek banks. The National Guard assisted the boys and men by furnishing two trucks to haul the debris away. The cleanup was termed a success and members of the beautification board express their thanks and appreciation to those Explorer Scouts and other men who assisted in any way. Citizens living in the vicinity vicin-ity of the creek banks, will also be expected to assist in the future fu-ture in keeping the areas more attractive. Whereas in the past some debris has been dumped into the creek, this practice will no longer be tolerated by the city. The creek banks in most areas, ar-eas, could be made attractive with the planting of shrubs along the banks. Near the churches and public buildings, planting shrubs could be a project pro-ject of a club or church group and would make the creek banks beauty spots instead of weed patches, it is pointed out. Convalescing Willis K. Johnson, 91, returned re-turned home Tuesday and is convalescing nicely from a major ma-jor operation, which he underwent under-went at Payson Hospital. n- ' i:-. . . - .... .
