Mapleton News Mrs. Blake Everett Clyde Mortensen is on crutches crut-ches this week as the result of a water-skiing accident on Utah Lake last week. He was skiing behind his boat about dusk on July 19, when another boat suddenly loomed in his path. He jumped to avoid being caught in the propellers of the boat, and as he came down, the sharp edge of an anchor, which was protruding slightly from the boat, caught his leg and cut a jagged gash almost al-most the full length of his leg. He was taken to the hospital, where more than 200 stitches were required to close the wound. The cut was not deep, and he was released to his home following treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Canto returned re-turned this week from a trip to southern California, where they visited with their son, Ronnie, who is leaving for Okinawa Ok-inawa this week. He will be there thirteen months serving as a dispatcher in a truck pool. He has received training in California for the past six months for this job. The Cantos brought their daughter, Kathy, home with them. She has been visiting with her brother, Jack, and his wife and baby at Van Nuys, California, for the summer. They also visited with Mrs. Canto's mother, Mrs. Vera Graham in San Diego. relatives. They came especially to see their nephew Donnie Jensn who is in the Utah Valley Val-ley Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Davies and family have just returned from a wonderful trip to Calgary, Cal-gary, Canada, where they attended at-tended the Thomas-Davies family fam-ily reunion. Mr. Davies and his sons went to the big Calgary rodeo and round-up which is a big attraction in that city every ev-ery summer. They visited with Mrs. Davies' sister and family in Montana, and also spent some time in Yellowstone Park. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Whiting enjoyed a two weeks visit from their daughter, Mrs. Lois Baker Bak-er and her son, Dennis of Costa Mesa, California this month. Another daughter and her husband, hus-band, Mr. and Mrs. George Powell (Elaine) and her family fam-ily came from Austin, Texas, and the whole family spent several days in Strawberry. They were delighted to find excellent ex-cellent fishing and fine camping. camp-ing. They also visited with their brother, Max Whiting and family in Orem. Mr. and Mrs. Powell spent several days in Ogden visiting with his parents par-ents and with their many friends there. They lived in Ogden before moving to Texas. Mrs. Baker's son Dennis graduated from the U.S. Naval Na-val Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, this spring. This was his first visit to see his grandparents s ince his graduation. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Butler of Ogden spent Sunday in Mapleton Ma-pleton visiting with friends and Both families have now returned re-turned to their homes. This past weekend Mr. and |
