Show Letter to the editor Readers favor opening of movie theatre Dear Editor, In learning of the plans to open the theatre in Springville, I was really happy at the plans set up, and the simple way of financing it. I was pleased at the time and effort a group of townspeople had given in behalf of us all. I realized a lot of fore thought and planning plan-ning had taken place, as I'm sure the townspeople do. Little did I feel the plans would not be accepted wholeheartedly by everyone. We still have a chance to unitedly promote a worthy citizen's project. Let's get together and put this project pro-ject over and do our part to help build Springville. As we have traveled through the country, one of the first impressions in going through a main street is whether or not there is a theatre. x peiaunaiiy reel a community com-munity is not very snappy if it has no movie. How do people peo-ple feel as they pass through Springville? Our Main Street has been much improved just by cleaning the building up. Let's make this a living thing, where our children and we can stay home and see a GOOD movie and have a place of which we can all be proud. Sincerely Melba Wheeler Desires a share Dear Editor I am happy to see the cooperation co-operation in the committee's efforts in getting subscriptions to open the theatre. We need one in town. The only thing I object to is not be able to acquire a share of common stock in the corporation. corpor-ation. We are a capitalist country and shouldn't further Socialism or Communism. We should be proud of our way of life. I'll pay a dollar for my show ticket but I want to have a share of stock for my five years participation of 75 cents a month. I can then vote for the board of directors who manage the show house and hire the people to run it. I could sell it if I got hard up for what I could get out of it. Ten years from now the way inflation is going it would be worth $100 instead of the ?45 T nnirl fni if T fonf c - ' iaou CJluugll people might buy a share outright out-right and money wouldn't have to be borrowed to start construction con-struction or remodeling. The city council and permanent per-manent people that work for the city have enough to do without putting the theatre on them. All I can say is the less socialism so-cialism and more capitalism the better. Paul E. Anderson A Holleywood producer spent $12,400 to hire six vintage cars for eight days on location. The autos appeared in 60 feet of film. I have been asked if I am in favor of the theatre opening. open-ing. As a businessman my answer is yes. I believe this is a great step forward in the betterment of Springville Main Street. It will give a boost to the business section through people as well as lights. The way it is proposed precludes private enterprise encroachment. encroach-ment. I believe the citizens of this area can make the theatre go and that it will not become a burden to the taxpayer. As a father and head of a family, my answer is yes. We are constantly striving to have facilities to help in utilizing the free time of our children. There are other projects, costing cost-ing much more, that will be used less. If the citizens want |
