Show Approval given for Guard to clear creek Word was received by the Utah County Commission this week, that approval has been given for stream bed improvement improve-ment by U.S. Corps of Army Engineers for Hobble Creek between be-tween Highway 91 and Interstate Inter-state 15. Upon completion of agreements agree-ments by the county with the Corps of Engineers, which is expected to be done in several days, the Army Engineers will Degm work. According to Commissioner Marion Hinckley, the stream bed has filled with gravel to the point that the gravel is as high as the creek banks posing a serious threat to the area from flooding during the spring runoff of mountain snow melt. The project will involve clearing clear-ing of the stream bed and strengthening of the banks. Once this is done, the county will assume maintenance and dragging the bed to prevent further clogging of the stream. Mr. Hinckley said that the stream bed through Springville is in fairly good shape while above town, it needs some work in removing debris before high waters occur. Below Interstate 15, property owners have an agreement with the state to clean the stream bed. All necessary easements from property owners between Highway High-way 91 and the freeway have been obtained to allow the Army Engineers to begin work immediately. A suggestion: Read a good book this month. |
