Show Favors angle parking tepreseiiMwe mlfBi letter To further point out the advisability ad-visability of Springville keeping the present angle parking on Main Street, Marvin E. Warren, War-ren, State Representative from this district, this week sent the following letter to the chairman of the road commission: commis-sion: ' Utah State Road Commission Weston E. Hamilton Chairman Road Commission Salt Lake City, Utah Dear Chairman Hamilton: I "It appears to me and thou-' thou-' sands of Springville citizens i that the Road Commission is . continuing to exert dictatorial I power (which should be curb ed) upon the citizenry, a good city council and the merchants of Springville. Angle parking has been studied in Springville by safety experts and found to be a much safer way to park in Springville than parallel par-allel parking. Just recently Mayor Paul Haymond received a very outstanding safety award in behalf of Springville City's good traffic record over the past seven years. I am sure your parallel parking idea could not improve this record it would only ruin the much needed business on M a i r Street. "It would be a -wonderfu gesture on the part of the com- mission if they would step out of this matter and let the city regulate its own parking problems. prob-lems. "The law was not intended to give five appointed officials (Road Commission) the power to tell our cities and their people peo-ple the kind of parking they must adhere to. "All people know that the State of Utah has enough road problems to smooth out to compete with the excellent roads of surrounding states without harassing our small communities with silly parking park-ing ultimatums. I personally hope our fine city officials hold tight against this attempted pushing around. "Anyone knows parallel parking is necessary on narrow nar-row streets, but on wide streets such as Springville has, it should not be imposed unless the community desires it. I have talked to many legislators about this problem and they believe as I do, that if the state insists on telling the communities the type of parking park-ing they must adhere to, then legislation will be enacted to prevent such bullish tactics. Chairman Hamilton, I hope you and the commission will let Springville handle this as they see fit without further intimidation. in-timidation. "We will all thank you for a kind understanding on this matter." Siincerely Marvin F. Warren State Representative |
