Show English ladies impressed with Utah mountains Cleo P. Heavener of this city relived a few of the days she had spent in England some time ago, when two school teachers from that country visited vi-sited here this week. The Misses Miss-es Irene James and Catherine Wallace of Evesham, Worcestershire, Worces-tershire, England, had been introduced in-troduced to Mrs. Heavenor via a former exchange teacher from England, Norman Turner, who taught at the Provo Franklin school where Mrs. Heavener is librarian. He had since returned to England and had recommended that the teachers call on Mrs. Heavener and others who had been kind to him while he taught in this country. Mrs. Heavener was happy to have the teachers in her home and escorted them to nearby places in which they might be interested. A ride over Timp Loop in company with Frank and Myrtle Price, Mrs. Lucille Blanchard and Mrs. Heavener; a visit to Salt Lake City tourist tour-ist spots, the Beehive House, Temple grounds, capitol building, build-ing, "This is the Place" monument monu-ment and a dip in Great Salt Lake; also a tour of BYU, a sky ride and a visit to the lake were highlights of their visit. They left here to go to Yellowstone Yel-lowstone Park, where Fred Gummow, a teacher at Franklin Frank-lin School would show them around and then they expected to see the Grand Canyon before be-fore leaving for San Francisco. Mrs. Heavener planned to meet them in Provo on their way back Friday between busses and take them on a picnic. She was much impressed with the charm of the visitors. The two teachers planned to go to Niagara Falls, N.Y. and to New York City, and other points in the east before returning re-turning to England. Perhaps the most impressive sight in this area to the visitors visi-tors were the mountains. The 5 people with whom they came - in contact, not only their hosts, i but those in bus stations, ticket offices, cafes and other public i spots, were especially friendly i - and kind and in most instances i much more hospitable than they had expected. |
