Show fffffe here mm Four Springville Pony League ball players at the close of the regional tournament tourna-ment games here last week, were presented with awards as outstnding players in the games. David Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hal Taylor, received re-ceived the award Wednesday evening; John Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Clark was judged the most outstanding Thursday evening and Linwood Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Carter and Stuart Hamilton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hamilton were sighted and given awards as the outstanding out-standing players Friday evening. even-ing. The opening of the tournament tourna-ment Wednesday was a colorful color-ful affair with the Scouts from Troop 129 posting the colors and placing an American flag also at each of the four bases. This part of the program was under the direction of Fred Erickson. Taking part were Scouts Larry Wilson, Gary Hjorth, Steven Golding, Joe Oliphant, Terry Neff, Jay Tuttle and Brent Russell. After the managers and players were introduced, a special tribute was paid Mrs. Myron (Thelma) Carter in recognition rec-ognition of her services as secretary sec-retary of the Pony League and her devotion to the program. She was asked to throw out the first ball. The ball was autographed and given to her as a souvenir. The first game was played by Vernal, which won at Price in a recent sectional tournament, and a team from Sebastopol, Calif., with the latter lat-ter winning. The same evening, Spring-ville Spring-ville All Stars played Richmond San Pablo of California and Bpringville was the winner. In the looser playoff game Thursday featuring Richmond San Pablo vs. Vernal, the California Cal-ifornia team won while Spring-ville Spring-ville lost to the Sebastopol group from California. Friday night pitted Spring-ville Spring-ville vs. Richmond San Pablo. The California team won the game resulting in the final game Saturday night being between the two California teams. The Richmond San Pablo Pab-lo team came out champions and will play in the Santa Clara tourney to determine the team to enter the national contest. con-test. The iSpringville team entered in the tournament because of its being the host city, made a fine record and their coach, managers and ball fans were proud of their efforts and the fine sportsmanship they exhibited. |
