Show Vita! problems handled at council meet Many items of vital concern to citizens of Springville were handled at the Monday night city council meeting by all councilmen, Mayor Paul Hay-mond Hay-mond , Attorney Robert J. Sumsion and Recorder Lloyd J. Ashcraft. Bids were opened for 3500 lin. ft. of 18" culinary water pipe which will replace the smaller pipe at the head of Spring Creek power plant down to 13th East Street. The bids opened and amounts: Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co., cast iron pipe, $28,350.00; Smith Scott Co., Ins., 18" steel pipe, $21,875.00 (alternate 10 gauge, $19,600.00; Johns Manville Co., 18" R-4 Transite Pipe Asbes-tas, Asbes-tas, $14,140.00. CI. Memory recommended rec-ommended tlie bids be turned over to Engineer John Neff for his study and recommendation. Bids for construction of sidewalks, side-walks, sprinkling system and landscaping the Civic Center Complex did not qualify and were all rejected. It was decided de-cided to purchase materials for the sprinkling system from the Waterworks Equipment Company Com-pany and call for bids again for sidewalks and landscaping. The city pasture lease of Ed Averett was adjusted from $1301 to $1000 due to the loss of some pasture land because of the freeway. Wilbur Snelson and Kay Johnson were approved as members of the Coordinating Council. Chairman A. I. Tip-petts Tip-petts reported Memorial Hall needed work done on it and if the city would furnish the materials ma-terials the senior citizens would do all the work possible for them to do. The library building came in for discussion. The Women's Wo-men's Federated Clubs and others oth-ers could use the downstairs. It should pay its own way and be under the jurisdiction of the city council. It was felt that members of the various clubs would be willing to help put it into shape to utilize it to the fullest extent. Fireman-custodian Art Child presented a reciprocal agreement agree-ment between the fire departments depart-ments in the .county which was approved by the council and signed by the mayor and city recorder. Mayor Haymond recommended recommend-ed the custodians at the file station be responsible for taking ta-king calls for burning throughout through-out the city and to make inspections in-spections when necessary. The number to pall is 489-5676. LaRell Johnson, chairman of the committee for children and youth requested some action be taken to help the youth find employment. Chief of Police, Po-lice, Ashley Graham, offered their office where those needing need-ing work could register. Calls in this regard should be made to 489-5692. It was moved by CI. Peay and seconded by CI. Reynolds that estimate No. 11 for work completed on the Civic Center be paid in the amount of $19, 609.65. The motion passed unanimously. |
