Show Music club features life of Cole Porter The life and works of the noted composer Cole Porter, were reviewed at the Jan. meeting meet-ing of the Springville Federated Federat-ed Music Club, Friday evening, of the past week, by Mrs. F. C. hostess, assisted by her daughter, daugh-ter, Pamela, and Adelina Fer-,ran. Packard. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Ed Forshee with the club president, Mrs. J. Lewis Lew-is Bird in charge. Commenting on highlights in the life of Porter, Mrs. Packard Pack-ard noted among other things, that he was a composer who was ,not only gifted but also wealthy and adventurous. Born in 1893, he served at one time with the Foreign Legion. His compositions were said to open the door of popularity to many well-known singers today. Some of his many well-known songs are, "In the Still of the Night," "Kiss Me Kate," "Don't Fence Me In," and others. He is one of the few composers who writes his own lyrics. Assisting Mrs. Packard with the program were Mrs. Gary Hatch Wright (Glida Ann Packard) of Bonita, Calif., who sang numbers composed by Mr. Porter, accompanied by Mrs. J. Brent Packard and Mrs. Maurice Mau-rice Bird, who played Porter compositions on the piano. Also Al-so the club group, directed by Mrs. Packard, sang several popular Porter selections. Included in business taken up by the club, was a discussion of the Parade of American Music program being sponsored by the club, to honor Mrs. Florence Flor-ence Jepperson Madsen, February Feb-ruary 7, at the Springville Stake House.
