Show Efforts should continue for a Parowan clinic Although the Valley View Medical Center has withdrawn its support of the Parowan Medical Clinic, medical care in Parowan has not ceased nor have efforts to establish a clinic with a full-time doctor in that community. We support these efforts against all problems that may crop up, including the most persistent-economics. persistent-economics. And economics does have a bearing on the effort at this time. Economics don't make it feasible to build a building such as the one envisioned by the Little Salt Lake Foundation three years ago. There is no longer money available to build a large, elaborate building. However, there is money available to build a functional clinic that will serve the needs of the Parowan citizens for many years to come. Therefore, we would hope that those who are still pushing for an elaborate building, for a building such as that planned three years ago, will look at the situation more carefully. The need, now, is for a clinic, that is all. Once again, we would also like to say that we honestly feel that Parowan needs a medical facility of its own. A little cold here and there or a quick visit to a doctor, even if he is 20 minutes away is fine, but it isn't until we have a major emergency or think about the convenience of having a doctor and medical facilities within our own community that we realize howl important it is. Thus, we woud certainly hope that the citizens of Parowan will be able to keep a clinic and a doctor in that community, to serve its citizens in a way that doctors and hospitals in Beaver and Cedar City just can't. Yet, probably more importantly, we hope that the citizens of Parowan (and we have said this before) will patronize the local facility as much as possible. Sometimes we hate to "lower" medical care to the same level as other services we purchase, but the old adage about shopping at home certainly applies here as well as in other areas. As with anything, if we want good medical care in a community, we have to support it. No doctor, no clinic, no sevice of any kind will stay in a town if it is losing money. Thus, we urge the people of Parowan to continue working toward a full-time clinic in their community. com-munity. We urge them to support Dr. Neilsen and to actively work toward a building and another doctor at some future date, thus giving the residents of Parowan the medical care they deserve. We also need, at this time, to congratulate all those who are moving positively toward a medical clinic. John Rex especially should be commended for the progress he is making, for the time he is putting into this project, simply because he thinks it is right. Also, to be commended are the businessesmen, especially those in the building trades, who have volunteered to help in building a clinic as soon as possible. Finally, thanks go to Mayor John C. Pendleton who has organized a committee and who has helped the' city to obtain an EKG machine and has taken major steps toward the acquisition of an X-ray machine. Certainly, this medical clinic will be worth the effort that is being expended. Certainly it will ber a great addition to the northern half of Iron County. |
