Show Farmers to see hay prices up LOGAN - Current market strength for hay in California should help Utah farmers. Jim Bushnell, extension ex-tension agronomist, Utah State University, said Utah each year delivers nearly 150,000 tons or more of hay to California, thus, Utah growers are interested in hay market prices reported by the California Bureau of Market News. According to the Bureau, the California hay market strengthened in the last week or so. Number one hay in Chino was selling for $100-$110 per ton delivered. Occasionally, it was higher with "steady strengthening undertones." High-testing hay in the Tulare-Visalia-Hanford areas "received good demand" at $105-$110 per ton with some offerings up to $112 and occasionally oc-casionally to $115. Mediocre hay brought $95-$105 per ton, and dry cow hay brought $80-$87 per ton. Bushnell explained that most farmers in the Juab, Millard, Beaver, and Iron counties are about $35-$40 per ton freight costs away from Chino. They could expect about $70 per ton for high testing number nnp ha v. |
