Show Record salutes Girl Scouting, encourages support renewal For over a 70 year period, Girl Scouting, going and growing, has been a precious natural resource on which our communities and our nation have come to rely. The organization celebrated its birthday March 12, and it is now a force of nearly 3 million girls and adults who make a collective impact on our lives in ways only Girl Scouts can. Girl Scouting has a positive influence on the lives of girls and young women as it imparts values that last a a lifetime. The motivating force is a spiritual one as they promise to serve God, country and mankind. Girl Scouts are contemporary, yet concerned about conservation of the best America has to offer. It's part of their uniqueness, a uniqueness highlighted by a 70th birthday celebration that focuses in a caring and unselfish way on another precious resource the water in our lives. So in this Decade of Water, in the year that is a milestone in Girl Scout history, the Record supports the Girl Scout organization and its support of two of our greatest resources young women and America's water. They both give so much. We're hopeful that the world's water resources and Girl Scouting will continue going and growing for many decades to come. As a birthday gift to the community and to the nation, Girl Socuts of Utah Council are working on projects focusing on protecting America's water. This month, the official birthday celebration will be launched by Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. The Statue of Liberty will be decked with green lights, the sign on the Newsweek Clock in New York will proclaim birthday greetings and the Goodyear blimp will fly over the Macy Center. A delegation of Utah Girl Scouts has already met with Governor Scott M. Matheson to receive a sample of a gift of water representing the state. On March 11, at the United Nations in New York City, water samples from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico officially launched the Girl Scout's gift to the nation-conservation nation-conservation of "gifts of water." We hope with this 70th year, that we can all renew our support of what Girl Scouting stands for that promise to serve, to serve God, country and mankind. Happy birthday girl scouts. |
