Show SU program 'sweet9 Graduation exercises were especially sweet last week for 15 Southern Utah State College graduates who probably wouldn't have received their diplomas except through SUSC's unique outreach program in teacher education. The graduates, fourteen four-teen from the Richfield area and one from Panguitch, all received bachelors degrees in elementary education, some with additional endorsements in early childhood or learning disabilities. "We know that there are many people living in southern and central Utah, some who have attended college and some who have not, who "A want-to-earn a-teaching degree but can't enroll as on-campus students," said Phillip C. Carter, chairman of the SUSC Department of Teacher Education. "As a result of this, we decided to take the teachers education program out to them." The outreach program began three years ago. Participants are required to complete all graduation requirementsjust require-mentsjust the same as students on the SUSC campus by taking courses right in their own hometowns. i |
