Show Fiddlers Canyon school Officials break ground By MIKE CANNON Record Reporter Officials from the Iron County School Board, Cedar City and various civic groups broke ground June 4 for the new Fiddlers Canyon Elementary School. The partial solar facility will be built in the Fiddlers Canyon development area on north Main Street. Carter Brothers Construction Co. will be building the educational complex at an estimated cost of $2,961,300. Seven companies originally submitted bids on "the project. ' Estimated length of time to finish the school is 400 calendar days, which would make it available for use in the fall of 1982. Iron County Schoolboard President Rett Shakespeare welcomed the group , attending the ceremony and expressed excitement with the project. "We're excited about this new elementary school," Shakespeare exclaimed. He went on to state his appreciation to the community for passing the bond election that made the school possible. Cal and Jack Carter, contractors, expressed thanks for the opportunity to construct the school. "Needless to say, we're happy 'to have this job" Cal Carter stated. "I'm sure we'll get a fine building for you that you will be proud of." "We hope we can complete the job with no problems" mentioned Jack Carter. He explained some of the uncertainties un-certainties currently plaguing the construction industry and stated Carter Brothers Construction Co. had a desire to do a fine job erecting the facility. Cedar City architect John Rowley explained some about the design of the school, particularly with regard to .the partial solar aspect. "This Board is very cognizant of the energy costs in adopting this building" Rowley explained. ex-plained. Frank Nichols, developer of Fiddlers Canyon gave thanks to the many people assisting with development of the area and Iron County School District Superintendent J. Clair Morris also thanked the taxpayers and voters for making . the school a reality. Carter Brothers has started construction con-struction on the building which should take a little over one year to complete. |
