Show Red tracksters finish fourth By LYNETTE SAWYER Record Reporter Cedar High track coach Robert Schexnayder expressed some disappointment disap-pointment over the team's recent showing at region. Redmen tracksters finished fourth behind Spanish Fork, Carbon and Payson. Cedar had several team members qualify for state competition. Danny Harris finished third in both the 100- 200-meter 200-meter runs. David Carter finished fourth in the 100-meter dash, second in the long jump and also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash. Gary Alger finished third in the 400-meter run, improving his previous best time significantly. K.C. Jones placed third in the high jump and Glen Taylor claimed sixth place in the event. David Dix made an impressive showing in the 3200-meter run as he finished second behind a Carbon High runner, who is considered by many the premiere state high school runner in this event. The CHS mile relay team placed fifth. The squad consisted of Jones, Alger, Troy Nielsen and Rick Lunt. Cedar's only first place finish was in the 400-meter 400-meter relay. Troy Nielsen, Danny Harris, David Carter and Gary Alger ran this event with Alger as anchorman. Only five Cedar High girls participated in region competition and two will go to state. Tori Brinkerhoff finished fifth in the hurdles, Jeannie Stratton placed sixth in the 600-meter 600-meter run and fifth in the 800-meter run, and Kim Beacham participated in the long-jump. Tonja Widick captured sixth place in the javelin and fourth place in the discus. Cathy Corry took second in the long jump and will compete at state in this event. |
