Show The little leaguer! By LYNETTE SAWYER Record Reporter No matter how many times you visit the ballpark this summer, you will find a certain type of creature in abundance. abun-dance. The Little Leaguer. They are everywhere and in all honesty, what would we do without them to make our lives a little more ; fascinating each and every baseball i season? It isn't easy to be a Little Leaguer. Certain problems and dilemmas they 1 lace are unique to them alone. For instance, how many people do you know who measure their success by the amount of grime, grass stains and filth they can inflict upon their clothes? And it certainly can't be easy to put up with irate parents. How in the world does a coach or youngster calm Dad when the eleven year old girl makes All-Stars, and Dad's twelve year old son does not? No one can get quite as excited as a -Little Leaguer when he gets his first, and often only homerun or even hit of his little league career. No one can be quite as charming as the Little Leaguer who wears the smallest uniform on the team and is almost always insured of a base-on-balls due to the minute size of his strike zone. Nothing can compare to the satisfaction of riding in the back of Coach's pickup to the drive-in lor a victory celebration alter a win. Nothing quite compares to the carhop's car-hop's feelings as she sees them coming, either! A Little Leaguer can be the one person who can evoke sympathy from young, old, male and female all at once. No one in the bleachers can help but feel a little tug at the old heartstrings when the miniature Johnny Bench's are pulled from the game after a game losing error. And yet, those memories somehow become humorous to the Little Leaguer down the road. Former SUSC great Dunn Lee poured in 41 points to lead Duffey's to the win while Steve Hudson scored 116 in a losing effort. |
