The section of the - popular program has been planned to help commemorate the sesquicentennial of the LDS Church. Participants, Par-ticipants, ages 18 through 30, will form a handcart company to hike in the mountains east of Provo for four-and-a-half days of pioneer trials and fun. "Pioneer Trek helps the participants to appreciate ap-preciate the struggles of the pioneers -physically, emotionally and spiritually," said Keven Hanson, director of the program, which was begun six years ago as part of the BYU Wilderness Adventures program. Groups of 10 persons are assigned to each 500-pound 500-pound handcart for the trip, through the mountains moun-tains to the base camp.
