Show SUSC Chi Alpha chapter awarded national honors Southern Utah State College's Chi Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda was cited as the largest PBL chapter in the West at the FBLA-PBL FBLA-PBL National Conference held recently in Washington, D C. The Western PBL Region includes college and university chapters of the national business club in Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah according to chapter advisor Doris Williamson. SUSC's Chi Alpha Chapter has 95 members. It earned Chapter, of the Year honors at the state PBL conference held in April, SUSC received further honors in Washington in areas of individual competition. Larry O. Hatch Cedar City, placed 10th in Mr. Future Business Teacher competition, and Gary Williams, Price, was recognized in 'Who's Who in PBL" and as one of the top 14 contenders for the national title of Mr. Future Business Executive. Hatch and Williams both graduated from SUSC May 30. Williams is past president and vice president of Chi Alpha Chapter and of the state PBL organization. "SUSC has done very well at the PBL nationals, particularly in Mr. Future Business Teacher competition," Ms. Williamson said. "Only last year Philip Lee won first place in the national contest and few years before that Rick Pruit placed third in the same contest. Hatch, Lee and Pruit all placed first in state competition to be eligible for the nationals." Other SUSC students competing in the 29th annual FBLA-PBL conference were Julie, Jorgensen, a spring graduate from Castle Dale, in accounting II, and Gordon Van Tassell, a senior from Draper, in economics. The SUSC delegation also included past chapter secretaries Nyleen Bosshardt and Anneytte Chilinski; former state . vice president Frank Misak; 1980-81 chapter president Eric Chamberlain; state 1980-81 historian Joan Christensen; members Quinn Pratt and Chris Kerecman; and Ms. Williamson. Contributions towards the Washington trip were made by the ASSUSC Senate, State Bank of Southern Utah, First Security Bank, and James Hoyle, Chi Alpha's "Business Man of the Year." : While , in Washington, the . students saw the national fireworks on the. 4th of July, toured the Smithsonian, took a VIP tour of the White House, and saw the panda bears at the National Zoo. The 30th annual PBL conference will be held next summer in Chicago. |
