Show Council approves .MX Resolution In a special meeting Tuesday evening, the Cedar City Council approved ap-proved a 11-point resolution outlining its stance on the proposed MX military project. Drawing unanimous support, though reluctantly from Councilwoman ; Barbara Starr, the resolution lists ! specific "conditions" to be met by the (Federal Government as requested by ' the City Council. ; Summarized, they are: --Congress "must" include in i authorizing legislation for the project ; the services which will be funded by the 'Federal Government for impacted 1 communities. -The Air Force should cooperate to intergrate employees into existing communities. --Support bases should be located so as to intergrate military personnel in existing communities. -Support bases should be located so people would be integrated into ser-veral ser-veral communities, rather than just one. The Council feels the Milford site accomplishes this. -The Air Force should provide funding (0 evaluate the MX's impact on municipal services. -As far as practical, all supplies should be purchased locally. -Construction sites should include temporary housing for construction workers. -As much as possible, hiring of local workers is encouraged. The resolution is the Council's first " attempt to state an official position of any kind, and involves issues the Council members agree on unilaterally, according to City Manager Joe Melling. In other action at the special meeting, consent was granted to Marino's Restaurant at the Airport to apply to the state for a mini-bottle liquor license. The city will send a letter to the state's Liquor Commission, stating their consent. The Council also heard from a representative of Burroughs , Smith and Co., concerning the proposed issuance of $2.2 million in revenue bonds. |
