Show Basketball schedule announced New faces will be a common sight during the 1980-81 basketball season at Southern Utah State College. The Thunderbirds' 26-game schedule will include some new opponents-six of them--and a host of old rivals, including all the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams and Grand Canyon College. A new head coach, Tom McCracken, will be leading the T-Birds through 14 home games and 12 contests on the road. The 14-game home schedule will include two games in the SUSC-hosted Color Country Classic tournament Dec. 29-30. Three new opponents-University of California-San Diego, Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, and Cal Lutheran-will Lutheran-will be battling in that tournament.' Other teams the Thunderbirds will meet this season for the first time in several years include Cal State-Los Angeles, Southern California College, and Northern Arizona University from the Big Sky Conference. The 'Birds open their season with four contests at home, starting Nov. 29 with Cal State-Los Angeles. The "killer" portion of the schedule comes in late January and early February when SUSC goes on the road for seven consecutive away games over a three-week three-week period. Games at home Feb. 25-26 against Southern Colorado and Western State of the RMAC will conclude the regular season. SUSC has earned post-season berths in seven of the last eight seasons.
