Show Bear reader: We're asking for your help Dear Record Reader, The Iron County Record is proud of its tradition of 97 years in service to the citizens of Iron County. That's right! In 1983 this paper will, celebrate 100 years of publication. One thing, at least, has changed over these past 100 years. Iron County is now a bit more difficult to effectively cover than it once was. Rapid growth has made it quite a bit harder to keep up on its citizens affairs and accomplishments. ac-complishments. But, being a community newspaper, we feel a deep commitment to inform our readers of what their fellow citizens are doing and accomplishing, as much as possible. You, a reader of the Iron County Record, can assist us as we attempt to meet the lofty ideals we have set for ourselves to serve you. Without your help, we have no hope of meeting those ideals. With your assistance, we can eventually provide you with the finest weekly newspaper in the state, for we feel you deserve no less. As the newspaper attempts to broaden its coverage and widen its scope, would you please consider contributing to this progress in any of the following ways you can: 1-THE IRON COUNTY RECORD NEEDS SMALL-TOWN CORRESPONDENTS IN SEVERAL AREAS. As you already know, we have fine correpondents working in parowan, New Harmony and Kanarraville. We would like to expand our small-town coverage into Beryl-New Castle, Enoch, Summit and Paragonah. If you live in one of these four areas, would you please consider working as a correpondent for the Record? If you could spare a few hours a week, and have a basic talent for writing, you could become part of an effective smalltown small-town news network. The benefits are great. Besides providing a valuable service to your community, you will be abreast of the very latest happenings in your town, and you may find, as other correspondents have, that you will be starting a rewarding, facinating hobby. If you are interested, or would like to receive more information about being a correspondent, please call the Record offices, at 586-9426. . 2. THE RECORD IS BEGINNING A "NEWS TIPS" PROGRAM, AND NEEDS COMMUNITY SUPPORT TO MAKE IT EFFECTIVE. Beginning this week, with additional details to be contained in future week's papers, the Record is sponsoring a program called Tel-A-Record. It works this way: Whenever you witness a news event, make your way to a telephone as quickly as you can and call the Record offices, 586-9426, and report it to us. The event can be as my serious as a J ire or auto accident, or as funny as a c omical wedding proposal. Whatever it is;, we will look at all the Tel-A-Record tip;s called in over a week's time, and give a prize to the best one. Even if youi don't win a reward, you can have the satisfaction of seeing your reported story acted upon and perhaps later in print. Tel-A-Reconi tips need not deal with fast-developing new stories. Anything else you feel we ought to know should be called in as well. 3. WHEN AM EVENT OF SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE OCCURS IN YOUR FAMILY, PLE'.ASE REMEMBER TO SHARE IT WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS THROUGH THE IRON COUNTRY RECORD. We are most anxious and willing to share your happiness with our readers. So please remember to tell us about weddings, engagements, missionary farewells or homecomings, special awards or accomplishments, one-year old birthdays, etc. We would like to see news of this nature become an even greater part of our news package. As you report these events tous, keep in mind the Record's 5 p.m. Monday deadline. Any information you could get to us a day or two in advance of that time would be appreciated even more. 4. WE DO HAVE POSITIONS FOR See READER on Page 7 Reader REPORTERS OFUN UN EITHER A FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME BASIS. If you have some journalism or writing background, and have between 10-40 hours a week to work, we would like to talk to you about an exciting job with the Record. Applicants should have rather flexible hours, the ability to write report, edit, type, and preferably take pictures, and the desire to grow as the Record does. College students, housewives and those holding down another job are all welcome to apply. 5. IF YOU HAVE IDEAS OF HOW THE RECORD CAN BE IMPROVED, PLEASE CALL AND SHARE THESE THOUGHTS WITH US. Some gentle molding of the paper will be taking place over the next several months, and we would like to hear from continued from page 1 you concerning improvements you think should be made in the newspaper. Give us a a call, particularly on Thursdays or Fridays, and we'll be happy to talk with you. We are also planning informal sessions in various parts of the county, so as to meet more of you personally and gain a better idea of what's important to you and how you feel about matters of importance to all of us. Please watch for a date and time in your area, come and let us know what you think. We are excited about what is ahead of us. It will be a decade of growth and progress for all of us, and we are anxious to contribute any way we can. We are committed to taking the Record to new heights of excellence and service.
