Show Anybody who ever chased butterflies or rainbows knows that they are both difficult to corner. Beautiful Beauti-ful though they may be, they are impossible to cage. For nearly eight years the County News has had "Butterflies "But-terflies and Rainbows" caged, and brought ihem to our readers on a weekly basis. But this week we are losing Carol Lemon the author of "Butterflies and Rainbows" and "Under The Lemon Tree." She will move on with her talents to brighten bright-en other lives. o Carol started out with an interview column, which she wrote until 1978 when she came to the County News full-tlme.The pressures of working full-time forced her to give up chasing Interviews but she continued her column with beautiful thoughts, an insight into people, places and thngs, and almost never a negative thought. Carol's column was a reflection re-flection of herself. Always finding beauty, serenity, tranquility and peace.even when all about her was confusion, con-fusion, frustration, "fear and uncertainty. But she always looked for, and found good In everybody and everything. We believe she gave a balance bal-ance to the County News, and the thousands of letters, cards and verbal compliments compli-ments indicate that our readers thought so too. o Carol was much more. She was friend, nurse and com -panion. An employee that gave 200 percent all the time. During my Illness (nearly two years) she hung right In there, carrying the ball, one minute the nurse, next the editor, publisher and bookkeeper. book-keeper. Somehow she managed man-aged to keep me alive, and the County News coming to you every week. We will miss her, as we are sure you will. But with a little luck, maybe she will send us a butterfly or rainbow rain-bow once In a while. And we hope she finds the end of the rainbow in her new home. 0- Meanwhlle we've added some new writers to the County News. Betty Jimenez besides writing "Milford In Motion", will start a new column "Betty's Bouquet," this week. She will be Interviewing Inter-viewing some of the best cooks in the county and besides be-sides enriching your lives with their lives, she will publish their favorite recipe. Then Barbara Mayer will give us a little history on San Rustlco Valley, (formerly (form-erly South Mllford),and the who, what, when and where of the residents who lived there, then and now. But that's not all! Joining us next week is Ellen Birch who besides trying to fill Carol's shoes on the production pro-duction end of the County News, will develop her own column in the weeks to come. Ellen is a former school teacher, and free lance writer. We are certain she will be a fine addition to the County News. We hope you will think so too! -0- Don't forget the election in your community next Tuesday. With Reagan's new federalist attitude, it will take strong local officials to be sure that state governments govern-ments don't take all the block grant money and spend It at the state level. But even more, Beaver County is like a sleeping giant, ready to come to life. It will take strong, honestj dedicated public officials to direct it along the right path. Too long we've waited for some fairy godmother. We must direct our own destiny. The first step in that direction dir-ection is at the polls next Tuesday. There are competent compe-tent people running for office in each community. They need your vote. |
