Steam rises from the storage reservoir (right) and the power plant is housed in the steel shed. A new transformer is finished and energised at the site, and three trailers house control panels and other equipment. It is expected that power from the plant will go on UP&L's lines In a few weeks. The plant will be tested for a couple of months this year and then a six month endurance test will be conducted after the first of the year. Several plants have been tested on well 54-3, but this is the first one In Utah to produce electricity from geothermal power that will be distributed for commercial use. UP&L and Phillips have signed an agreement to build a 20 megawatt power plant to be completed in 1983 and go on line in 1984. A number of 55 megawatt plants are scheduled to follow. |
