Show -7 Illegal fish plantings have severely undermined the Wildlife Resources fisheries program in several waters in the state. A recent gill netting of Baker Reservoir in Wash-1 Wash-1 lngton County brought up 350 I two -inch crappie. We thought we had a good ! trout program there. It was full of nice brown trout from ! four to eight pounds. Now the reservoir may be eventually taken over by three to six inch crappie. Apparently a bucketful of j crappie was illegally taken from Gunlock Reservoir, and introduced into Baker about two years ago. It only takes a few fish to cause the dam -age. It may no longer be feasible feasi-ble to stock fingerling trout in Baker. Crappie have also been illegally il-legally Introduced from Gun-lock Gun-lock into Ivins Reservoir, Upper and Lower Sandcove Reservoirs. Illegal introductions of bass Into Steinaker Reservoir Reser-voir In Uintah County have created problems with the trout fishery. Crappie have also been illegally Introduced into Pineview Reservoir. Utahns are asked to report illegal fish planting activities activi-ties . immediately to the Division of Wildlife Resources. Resour-ces. The Illegal planting of fish Is a Class B misdemeanor misde-meanor and carries severe penalties. The closure to motorized vehicles for the Birch Creek Drainage on the Beaver Ranger Ran-ger District, Fishlake National Na-tional Forest, has been in effect since August 17, 1976. For the past five years the District has filed to enforce the closure order. This year the closure will be enforced. The jeep road through Patterson Hollow to Birch Creek will be closed by earth and rock barriers. The point of closure will be signed, however, it is approximately ap-proximately 12 mile from the sign to the physical barriers. bar-riers. A turnaround is available avail-able near the sign. The road from Kent's Lake LaBaron Lake Road, Forest Road 137, to the closure point is not maintained for public use and is potentially hazardous, especially west of Birch Lake. The District is asking the public to respect the closure thereby preventing additional ad-ditional resource damage and avoiding the need to issue violation notices. The Map of the area is available at the Beaver Office. |
