Show Boy, is the weather ever beautiful! Of course, we don't accept the responsibility responsibil-ity for the beautiful weather, nor will we be responsible if it changes as soon as this goes to press. But the evidence is everywhere every-where you look, neighbors watering lawn, as they begin to take on the first tinges of green. Fuss Brinkmanhas already started to turn some ground for his beautiful flowers flow-ers at Milford Valley Mem -orial Hospital. It's shirt sleeve weather, and everybody's getting the bug to be in the yard and outside. Youngsters escape the house for yards and streets.' There is a little lit-tle activity on the tennis courts, and heaters can be shut off most of the day. - 0 - But as the sun gets higher, high-er, youngsters should be warned to look for cars, especially on high school hill. The sun is almost right to blind drivers as they go to school, and when school lets out. Most drivers are extremely careful, but the kids shouldn't take for granted grant-ed that they are seen. - 0 - There hasn't been much precipitation and the mountain moun-tain snow pack is extremely extreme-ly low, which is of some concern to farmers and ranchers. But the Minersville Miners-ville reservoir carried through In good shape, and It was necessary to let about a foot of water out last week, to avoid possible floods lat- er- 0 And though it feels like spring, its really only time for looking at seed catalogs. These big, colorful catalogs, with vegetables, fruits, flowers, flow-ers, trees and shrubs, make your mouth water and your green thumb twitch. We love to look at them, but we're careful to throw away the order blank first. Just so we won't let our temptations run amuck. We remember when we ordered order-ed the giant fruit trees and the little two foot whip we got to plant. And how about the climbing climb-ing strawberries for the front porch trellis, that refused re-fused to climb, and sent runners through the pansies and up the gladiolas. And too often in our enthusiasm en-thusiasm to order early, the order arrived with a foot of snow on the ground and we had no place to put them while they rotted and stunk up the basement. - 0 - So now we just look at the pictures and lick our chops, ooh and aah at the beautiful flowers and trees, and wait until the local greenhouse stock is ready. Besides, after ten years in Milford, we know there will be a good snowstorm between the first and 15th of May. - 0 - So, let the neighbors get all excited with their hot houses, and bustling around the yard. The Ol' Redhead will just wait until the crocus cro-cus are finished blooming and the tulips are past their prime before taking shovel In hand. - 0 - We are In full agreement with President Reagan's austerity move. Certainly we've advocated as much for many years, and we wish him success. Unfortunately, many of the successes, If passed on the federal level, will be offset off-set by new taxes and programs pro-grams on the state level. We are almost scared to pick up the daily tally sheet on the 44th legislature to see which of the nearly 900 bills they are pushing through today. And while there is always a batch of poor legislation, this year some of it is purely pure-ly asinine. You would almost al-most think that some of those legislators majored at being stupid. They've only got a couple of weeks left, but generally they are the worst, since they try to beat the deadline dead-line with little study or forethought. fore-thought. Most of the bills are available avail-able at the COUNTY NEWS office. - 0 Just one question. If a 30 percent tax decrease will spur the economy, and get the UJS. back on track, why not eliminate all taxes and really get things perking. |
