Show Hike Symond to specialize Family Practice i I ; ' 1 i . . . . , ,A Mike Symond, son of Dr. ' and Mrs. David A. Symond, was among the 1,746 students stu-dents receiving advanced degrees de-grees at the University of Utah June 10th. He received a Doctor of Medicine degree and has been accepted for a three year residency in family practice at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City. After his residency he plans to join his father's practice In Milford. Dr. D. A. Symond was one of the first to receive a degree in family practice medicine, Mike Symond one for a general practitioner. practi-tioner. Mike is married to the former Cheryl Walker of Southerland. They have two children. , The graduation ceremony took place in the 15,000 seat Special Events Center, with a total graduating class of 4,799. Dr. Hope Franklin, distinguished historian from the University ofChicago delivered de-livered the commencement address. and has for a number of years worked on an advisory board to develop the specialized special-ized family practice department depart-ment at the University Medical Medi-cal Center. Mike graduated from Milford Mil-ford High School in 1966 and pursued degrees in architecture archi-tecture and engneering, and spent a hitch in the navy before going on to get his degree in medicine. , Being accepted to a family practice residency is a singular sing-ular honor, afforded to very few graduates.
