Secretary of Labor Ray Marshall protesting protest-ing regulations which would prohibit firms doing federal feder-al business from supporting the membership of their employees em-ployees in Kiwanis, Lions and other single -sex clubs. Labeling the action "preposterous," "pre-posterous," the letter also suggests that "only the HEW attack on high school glee clubs (comes) to mind as a recent rival for sheer absurdity." Other signers of the letter include Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), (R-Utah), Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), Sen. Carl Curtis (R-Neb.), Sen. JackSchmitt (R-N.M.), Sen. John Danforth (R-Mo.), Sen. "Persons who have never given of themselves to service ser-vice organizations may really real-ly believe as OFCCP claims that service clubs are really 'local business-generating groups.' " the senators sen-ators said. "Similarly, those too affluent and fortunate for-tunate to have need of the services of these organizations organiza-tions may be oblivious to their enormous benefit to society. |
