Show The Dept. of Wildlife Resources Re-sources has planted Minersville Miners-ville Reservoir with 20,000 catchable size trout, and it will open June 3rd along with most other Southern Utah waters. The reservoir was drained last year to repair the dam , and treated to remove the rough fish and had not been expected to open. But the DWR, recongizing the popularity popu-larity of this water, moved last month to plant legal size trout along with the normal fingerlings and open the wat er for fishing this year. Fishing pressure is expected ex-pected to be somewhat light -ter than usual, but campground camp-ground facilities will still be a problem. Worms and cheese should be the best baits, with flies taking some fish in the early morning and late evening. The DWR planted 300,000 fingerlings and 20,000 catch -ables. The stream below Minersville Reservoir also has been stocked earlier, and has had considerable fishing pressure. Only two lakes in the Beaver Bea-ver Mountains are expected to be accessible on the June 3rd opening. Little Reservoir Res-ervoir has been planted with catchables, and should average av-erage about one -third pound. Both Merchant Creek and the upper Beaver River, which were to be stocked with catchables for the opener have high water and have not been stocked. They along with the other Beaver Mountain lakes, will be stocked as soon as water levels and snow melt make them accessible. Fish Lake is expected to be popular and good fishing. The Lower Enterprise Reservoir Res-ervoir is planted with catchables, catch-ables, and Upper Reservoir is closed. Mam m oth C reek is stock -ed for the opener and should produce some sizeable browns. Otter Creek has been planted, but is expected expect-ed to be slower than usual due to treatment last year. Panguitch Lake could be the closest hot spot, with fish ranging from one -third to three pounds. Camping facilities fa-cilities are good. Panguitch Creek also has been stocked stock-ed with catchables. Many other smaller and not so popular waters have been planted, and should produce pro-duce on opening weekend for the fishermen who know the water. |
