A drill rig moved into Pine Valley last week to prove a water source, and they were in the process of moving their base camp out of Pine Grove, towards the valley this week. A core drilling outfit was scheduled to start exploration explora-tion work this week, according accord-ing to a reliable source. Four rigs are expected to be on the job soon. The discovery announced last December is a por- phyry type deposit, at 2,000 to 6,000 feet deep. Phelps Dodge reported they had found significant lengths of molybdenum mineralization with minor tungsten values in four drill holes at depths of 2,000 to 5,000 feet. The discovery is on the west side of the Wah Wah Mountains, just across the summit from the Alumet al-unite al-unite deposit. Alumet plans a multi-million multi-million dollar open pit alumina alu-mina venture, and has been held up since Septem -ber 9th, on approval of the final draft of the environmental environ-mental statement and a poor market for aluminum and fertilizer. fer-tilizer. Alumet planned to market three types of fertilizer fer-tilizer using byproducts of the alumina process and potash from Soda Springs, Idaho. The Getty -Phelps Dodge molybdenum will require extensive ex-tensive exploration over the next few years, and if sue -cessful would be developed develop-ed underground. Either of the projects would greatly enhance the economy of Western Beaver County and provide a tremendous economic impact im-pact upon Milford. Phelps Dodge has asked Beaver County to vacate the road over the Wah Wah Mountains that passes right over the molybdenum deposit at Pine Grove, in order to develop the ore body. If the exploration phase proves Phelps Dodge suspicions, suspic-ions, it would probably take another five years to develop (Continued on Page 2) HERE'S MORE ABOUT Molybdenum and begin mining, sources told the COUNTY NEWS. They vviiuuimg a reservoir test since last Oc -tober, and presently a one megawatt hydrothermal plar is being tested by Jet propulsion pro-pulsion Laboratories on well 54-3. Thermal Power Co., VTN, Bountiful City, and O'Brien Gold of Canada have also announced an-nounced plans to construct a 55 megawatt plant at Roosevelt Roos-evelt Hot Springs, about eleven ele-ven miles north of Milford, where they have drilled two commercial wells. Getty Oil also is involved In geothermal operations at Roosevelt, and just completed complet-ed a well that is expected to be tested soon.
