Show Uildornoss bill gets once over The members of the Utah Congressional Delegation met with Governor Scott Matheson. The topics of dls- ; cussion included the Central Utah Project, the Burton ; Omnibus Wilderness Bill, and Colorado River salinity. salin-ity. The Delegation promised strong opposition to the Burton Bur-ton Omnibus Wilderness Bill which would make wilderness wil-derness areas out of all of Utah's national parks and monuments. Only GlenCan-yon GlenCan-yon Recreation Area would not be included in the Burton Bur-ton bill. Zion's National Park, Bryce National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, Arches National Park,Dino- ; saur National Park, and ! Flaming Gorge National Recreation , Area would apparently become wilderness wil-derness areas under the provisions pro-visions of the act. Senator Hatch said, "This is just another attempt by our ! friends in the highly popu- ' lated areas of the country to lock-up the entire state of ' Utah as a National Monument With the provisions of this bill, most of the state would be off limits to natural resource re-source development. In add- j ition," said the Senator, ; " vehicular restrictions i could close Utah's National Parks to everyone but the youthful, physically -fit hiker. I don't think that is what our National Park System was designed for." , |
