Show : SMOKEY TO CHANGE COLORS The Utah Highway Patrol, Wednesday, November 16th, announced a change of uniform uni-form (the trooper campaign hat). Beginning November 16th, the patrolmen throughout through-out the state will begin wearing wear-ing a brown "smokey bear hat". Prior to 1955, the Highway Patrol uniform included a beige campaign hat in sum mer months along with a garrison gar-rison cap in winter months.' This was later changed to wearing of the garrison cap full time in the fall of 1955. Then in 1974, the administration adminis-tration of the patrol again went back to the "smokey bear" campaign hat. But because be-cause of the beige color of the hat, it was soon found that the durability was poor and cleaning and blocking ! were impossible. So this year, with the as -sistance of the Utah Highway Patrol Association, asurvey was conducted and a new hat adopted. This new hat being brown in color will hopefully hopeful-ly prove to be more durable and yet still enhance the state trooper image. |
