Dr. Wayne Crook welcomed wel-comed the participants and introduced the new staff. School Board president, Karl Truman, commented briefly on the crucial role and influence in-fluence educators have in our current society. "We have a good school system in Beaver Bea-ver County. There is nothing greater than some of the things you contribute and accomplish with the young people," he said. Superintendent Lynn Has-lem Has-lem introduced the new theme for the 1977-78 school year, "Feeling the Fit of the Shoe". "We forget how the shoe fits," he said, "and we need to be reminded how communications are understood under-stood and perceived." He especially emphasixed the necessity of having empathy for others. Dr. Ivan Muse, guest lecturer lec-turer from BYU, was then ( introduced to the group. Dr. ; Muse demonstrated several methods of group interaction. "Teachers need to be special," spe-cial," he said. His group activities presented an effective ef-fective insight of human behavior. be-havior. The group adjourned for lunch to the Ponderosa Park up Beaver Canyon. The succulent suc-culent ham lunch with all the trimmings were prepared pre-pared by the BHS lunch staff. After lunch Mrs. Doris Taggert, public relations officer of-ficer for Zion's First National Na-tional Bank, convened with the group in the amphitheatre at the park. Her talented message and advice fostered the importance of being happy hap-py with ourselves and doing things for others because we want to and not because of force. The entire seminar was very valuable and certainly stimulated a positive atmosphere atmos-phere to begin a new school year. |
