Show Home Arts exhibits duo for state fair imposed. Division III includes in-cludes home-made candies; and Division IV consists of yeast breads. Breads should be brought in to the Home Arts Department according ac-cording to the following schedule: Sept. 1, 10 a.m. to 5 pjn., and September 2, 10 a.m. til noon. The entry fee is $1.50 for up to ten exhibits. Special displays may be entered free by such groups as the Veteran's Veter-an's Hospital, nursinghomes or other non-profit organizations. organi-zations. However, group entries en-tries will be limited to ten on a first -come, first-served basis because of limited space. Exhibits must be in the Home Arts Building by 3 p.m., Sept. 3. "When you win a prize or blue ribbon at a fair, chances are it isn't luck. In fact, skill, craftsmanship, talent and other personal attributes are the people -ingredients that produce winners and winning objects or products," said Hugh C. Bringhurst, director direc-tor of the Utah State Fair. "The home arts are no exception," he stated, "and this year the fair is offering $3,600 and ten sweepstakes trophies as prizes in the Home Arts Department." The Home Arts Department is supervised by Roene Wood, Murray. In addition to the fair awards, the following merchants mer-chants are offering the prizes indicated: SingerCo., sewing maching; Kerr Glass Mfg. Corp., jars; Ball Bros. Co., jars and cash award; U & I Sugar, bags of sugar; Meredith Mere-dith Corp., Better Homes & Gardens Cook Books; C & H Sugar, gift boxes; and the Stearns and Foster Co., quilt batts and $25.00. "If there are any questions as to what qualifies as home arts at the fair," Bringhurst added, "the official premium list is very explicit concerning concern-ing items which can be exhibited ex-hibited as such." Generally, the home arts are classified into four divisions and several sev-eral sub-classes as follows: Division I Needlework and Home Handicraft. Sub-classes include household linens and accessories, bedroom linen, quilts and afghans, I rugs, pictures and furniture, clothing and fabric, knit and crochet clothing and fashion accessories. Division II Home Canning is divided into specific food items and even soap. This year, a limit of 50 canning exhibits has been |
