Show STOP SPOTLIGHT HUNTING: First order of business for the new commission was getting itself organized. Howard Pryor was put in as chairman and took the chair. There was no hesitation in getting down to business. State Trooper Ron Gale approached the Commissioners Commission-ers about a new radar for the Highway Patrol at $2,000 and fencing of U-21 before he and Milford EMT President Presi-dent Dick Rollins and Mel Walker asked for help in purchasing a new ambulance j for West Beaver County. Admitting that ambulance services in the west end of the county were a losing proposition to begin with, they said that presently they have only 15-25 ambulance calls per year. However, they were most sincere about wanting to provide this needed need-ed service, and informed the Commission they were in the process of approaching all governmental bodies, civic organizations, and major industrial in-dustrial users in Western Beaver County for help in raising funds for a new am -bulance. They anticipate a new am -bulance to cost $20-25,000 with a modular unit at the higher price beingthe cheaper cheap-er in the long run, since the vehicle can be replaced without with-out purchasing the modular or medical unit. They asked to be included in funding of Fire District II. They recommended the Commission set up an advisory ad-visory board called the Em-' ergency Services Advisory Board to administer funds to the fire districts and am -bulance units in the county. Attorney John Christen -sen argued that advisory boards were to be set up in each district, called Fire District I or Fire District II Advisory Board. The Board shall consist of from three to seven members and is advisory to the Commissioners. Commis-sioners. Christensen said there is no provision for using any of the fire district mill levy for ambulance service. ser-vice. He questioned whether it would be legal to use the funds for any other purpose than fighting fires. The EMT's said they had formed an organization, on the same line as Beaver's EMT group, and were presently pres-ently functioning with the Milford ambulance. They said, however, the present ambulance doesnotnowmeet state requirements. The Commissioners advised ad-vised them to work through the municipalities or the hospital hos-pital district. They indicated they felt like orphans, because be-cause no one wanted them. The Commissioners said they'd take a hard look at it and see if there is any way they can help. Without opening open-ing the budget, there is no money unless they get the in -lieu of tax money. Beaver's ambulance, which passes state requirements, require-ments, is operated by the EMT'sj in conjunction with the fire department. It is owned by Beaver City and receives financial help from the Beaver Hospital. The freeway also provides enough calls to make it an almost breakeven proposition. The new Commissioners challenged the nearly $70,000 Sheriff's Dept. budget. They (Continued on Page 2) and 16th for the Board of Equalization to meet. Atty. Christensen offered cooperative agreements to be presented to the municipalities munici-palities for use of the County Building Inspector. After discussions, they were to be revised. HERE'S MORE ABOUT COMMISSIONERS called Sheriff Nelson in to justify the proposed expenditures, expen-ditures, and to find out what was being accomplished by the department. Noting numerous complaints com-plaints around the county, tljey asked about personnel assignments. Theywere particularly par-ticularly concerned with Deputy Hutchison who was hired as a jailer. The Commissioners showed show-ed a particular interest in getting U-21 fenced from Beaver to Milford, and planned plann-ed to clarify fencing plans for U-130 south of Minersville. Miners-ville. They want both sides of the highway fenced. They would like to get all the major ma-jor highways fenced in the county. They proposed to bring BLM and the Beaver County Cattlemen together at the public meeting with the Dept. of Transportation on Jan. 26th at 10:00 a.m. in the courthouse. They set up a meeting with John Wiley and the municipalities munici-palities for the same afternoon after-noon at 2:00 p.m. to set a date for a public hearing as required by law, before adoption adop-tion of new zoning and subdivision sub-division ordinances. R. G. Gardner, ASCS, told the Commissioners of a new Emergency Livestock Feed Program that was being set up for affected farmers. They authorized a letter requesting request-ing Beaver County eligibility. Comm. Johnson moved the Commissioners write a letter let-ter to qualify related businesses busi-nesses for disaster relief, if the state gets such designation, desig-nation, due to lack of snow. All related businesses would be eligible to the degree they suffered losses. Noting the vandalism caus -ed by irresponsible individuals indivi-duals shooting after dark, the Commissioners voted to have an ordinance drawn to stop all hunting with a spotlight spot-light throughout Beaver County. Damage to personal property and danger to residents resi-dents was cited as the reason rea-son for thi move. The ordinance ordi-nance is intended to eliminate elimi-nate any hunting with artificial artifi-cial lights. Tom Dover, Conrad Grim -shaw, and Dave Reynolds told the Commissioners that they were making good progress pro-gress with their new fire hall , and expected to com -plete the first phase of it soon.
