Dr. John McGuire and his wife Jessica spent a night with Jeanette, also. They are from Connecticut. Mrs. Jim Smithson has been In Salt Lake City this past week caring for two sisters who are ill. One is a semi-invalid, semi-invalid, Vee Woods, and Gertrude Ger-trude Zinc, who is seriously ill and awaiting an operation. Jeffrey M. Sly, son of Russell Rus-sell and Geniel Sly of Enum-claw, Enum-claw, Washington, is here visiting with his grandparents, Thurland and Alma Sly. As school is approaching he cant stay as long as grandpa and grandma would like. Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Welch, Reno, Nev., were here five days last week with her parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Gil-lins, Gil-lins, and her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Norm Thompson and family. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Pool this last week, were his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. C. McWhorter of Denver. The couple enjoyed meeting old friends and the ladies attended the Fashion Show and Tea, where Ruth met many other long-time friends. They returned re-turned home by way of Salt Lake City, where they also visited with relatives and friends. They expected to arrive ar-rive in Denver, Saturday evening. eve-ning. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Patterson Patter-son and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Griffiths had as guests last week, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Patterson and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Patterson and children of Grass Valley, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Joe BarsottiandMr. and Mrs. Phil Ross and child ren of Bakersfield,; Calif., and Miss Shiela Patterson of Orem, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Patter-' Patter-' son and Mr. and Mrs. Amb- rose Patterson spent Wednes-' Wednes-' day in Kanab, rock hunting, returning by way of Cedar ' Mountains and Cedar Breaks. ENJOY MONTH VACATION 1 TO EAST COAST Mrs. Norman Baxter and daughter, Jtani Williams, have recently returned from a month's vacation to the east coast. Enroute they stayed over in St.' Louis, Mo. where Lani took the cable car ride to the top (64 stories) of the scenic Gateway Arch. In the evening they enjoyed a steam -er trip down the Mississippi river with dinner and enjoyed entertainment aboard. Arriving at the home of an uncle, Mr. Edison Johnston, in Leonardtown, Maryland, they all had a grand reunion re-union with relatives. Some had not seen each other for over 35 years. During the visit Mrs. Baxter, Lani, and their uncle toured Washington D.C., taking in the Mall and Arlington National Cemetary one day. While there they witnessed the colorful ceremony cere-mony of the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the placing of the Bicentennial wreath on the tomb by Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth Eliza-beth of England, then visited the grave of Pres. John F. Kennedy. The next day a tour of the Smithonian Institution. Grant held his headquarters during the Civil War, and historic his-toric Petersburg and famous other Civil War battlegrounds there. Then on to Norfolk where they visited an aunt, Mrs. Ray Waterfield and herfamily,and toured the coastline of the Chesapeake Bay where many interesting places and things to do made a very eventful trip. The tour of the General MacArthur Memorial and the Old St. Pauls Episcopal Church was included there. Also two days at Virginia Beach sunbathing and riding the waves proved to be fun and relaxing. A drive to an old hometown home-town of Mrs. Baxter where she started to school in 1921 brought back memories. The same school building still stands and is in use today. F rom Virginia they continued on down to Townsville, N.C. of Mrs. Baxter's greatgrand-m greatgrand-m other and great-grandfather. Taking pictures and remembering re-membering old times with relatives re-latives and friends of times gone by came to a close with fond good-byes, and the return re-turn trip home in sight. On the way back they stopped stop-ped and toured the home of Andrew Jackson and visited Grand Ole Opry Land in NashviHe, Tennessee. Mr. and Mrs. Brent Baxter of Miners ville, cared for the three daughters of Mrs. Williams, Wil-liams, Marie, Karen and Ellen, El-len, while she was away. the sun came out and they could see Mt. McKinley in aU its splendor from the Barnes' home, which is located on a mountainside. Helen says the lakes and streams are just beautiful, so clear and the wild flowers, especially the fire weed, is just gorgeous. She saw moose, caribou, fox, bear and marmotts. They drove to the Matanuska Valley where all kinds of grains and vegetables are grown. Helen says the sunsets are mag-nificant. mag-nificant. She arrived home the 2nd of August. Several people have been to Alaska this summer; the Norton's to visit their daughter, Barbara in Anchorage. Anchor-age. Wanda Munk to visit her son and family in the Armed Service there and the Van Tassell's. Sade Griffiths was operated on for gallstones in a Salt Lake hospital last week and is doing well. Mrs. Delia Allison of Eureka, Utah is visiting her sisters, Theda Gale, Euzell Thomas, and another sister at Mrs. Thomas' home from C alifornia. Mrs. Vilate Long has had a niece, Lucinda Weiss from Hurricane, Utah, visiting her for ten days. Vilate drove her home a few days ago. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Edwards Ed-wards attended graduation rites at BYU in Provo, Utah to see their son, Rob- Vaughn McDonald and fam -ily are visiting in Milford. . ge is in the process of being transferred to Scott AFB in Illinois. They are visiting parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. jjcDonald and Mr. and Mrs. pan Ferguson. His wife and children plan to remain in jlllford for a time, until he can arrange housing on the base. Bill is out for football atMHS. Dan Ferguson suffered a stroke last Thursday. He had only temporary paraly-gls paraly-gls and is recuperating very . well. Mrs. Virginia Grimes is happy to announce the birth of her fifth grandchild. The tuy miss is the new daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve (Debbie) Campbell of Centerville, Utah. She was born August 13. Her name is Jamie. Roger Memmott and his son Christian stopped to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orrtn Memmott. He is in the process of moving from California to Cincinnati, Ohio where he will teach English at the University there. Orrin went with them, to help drive the U-Haul they are moving some of their belongings with. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Memmott Mem-mott and three children flew to Delta, Utah several weeks ago to a Peterson family reunion on his mothers side of the fam -ily. They visited with their folks and relatives and flew back the same day. Doug is He bishop of the L X. Willow, Wil-low, California Ward. Mrs. Judy Daly and three children of Troutdale, Oregon ire visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baxter, for several weeks. Mrs. Helen Cook just recently re-cently returned from a trip to Alaska. She flew to Anchorage An-chorage from Salt Lake City. She stayed there with friends, Mr, and Mrs. Alan Barnes.' They saw the Portage Glacier ind other glaciers. They also drove to Mt. McKinley Park but it was raining and so the mountain was not visible. After they got home to Anchorage Mr. and Mrs. Gavin Weir returned last week from a month of visiting in Washington Washing-ton state with Clair's sons, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Harper and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Harper Har-per and families.Theyattend-ed families.Theyattend-ed Clair's family reunion while there. They returned by way of Redding, Calif, and visited with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. K. H. Spengle and family. Here to visit with the Weir's from Wednesday to Friday were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Rod-gers Rod-gers and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Har-old Moser of Fayette, Iowa. Mrs. Rodgers is Gavin's sister. Arro Space Museum and the capitol building were very interesting. While in Washington Washing-ton Mrs. Baxter attended to having a marker placed on the grave of her father, Mr. G. E . Roone, at the Fort Lincoln Cemetary, in Washington. After a visit and reunion with relatives at Jamaica and Gloucester, Virginia. They continued on to Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown, centers of the Bicentennial where- relnactment of historical histor-ical events were taking place. In Hopewell, Va. they visited vis-ited old friends, Mrs. Grace Woamer and Mrs. Clara Hudson, Hud-son, who accompanied them on a tour of Historical City Points, Virginia, where Gen. ert graduate with a Bacholor of Science degree in Accounting.
